Job Description

Position Summary

To ensure consistency and effective delivery of services of the hybrid MLS program, the Clinical Coordinator is: 1) responsible for the oversight of MLS practicum sites in coordination and under the direction of the DAS-MLS; 2) establishing clinical partner sites and managing relationships with site; 3) implementation of the practicum coursework aligned with course objectives; 4) assigning student placements based on learning outcomes; and 5) monitor clinical liaison and preceptor training and oversight. The Clinical Coordinator will hold an adjunct faculty appointment at the academic institution, meeting required faculty qualifications and responsibilities.

The CC is responsible for monitoring, and evaluating all MLS clinical sites and student experiences in coordination with the DAS-MLS.

The CC will verify that faculty and students have met the credentialing requirements of assigned facilities and that all required documentation has been submitted to the health/laboratory partner facilities.

The CC will coordinate an orientation program for all preceptors to ensure that the course/program outcomes are achieved.

The CC will schedule periodic visits to the health/laboratory partner facilities utilized each semester, documenting the findings of each visit, providing feedback to partner faculty and improvements in coordination with the DAS-MLS.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist DAS-MLS to identify, select, contract with, monitor, and evaluate all preceptors. Visit all clinical sites and the health/laboratory partner(s) to support a relevant and comprehensive student learning experience. Work in conjunction with faculty to establish alignment of practicum experiences with course and program outcomes/goals. Verifies with the clinical liaison that student verification and documentation of clinical compliance requirements, has been completed prior to practicum placement. Serve as the first-point-of-contact for resolution of practicum personnel issues that may arise between staff at the practicum site, preceptors and students. Coordinate orientation, training, and development guidance for preceptors regarding their clinical site and related MLS coursework. Act as a faculty mentor to assist new preceptors in clinical related teaching activities including but not limited to: understanding their role as clinical instructors, grading system, handling challenging student situations, student evaluation forms, management of the software tracking system and academic partner learning management system (LMS). Verify and work with DAS-MLS/faculty/administration and student(s), for practicum makeup requirements. Provide input into the evaluation process of preceptors.  Verify that evaluations for students are completed, and risks mitigated. Ensure all evaluations for faculty are completed and disseminated to the DAS-MLS, and shared with the Assistant Program Director of the MLS program. Ensure all evaluations for health/laboratory partners are completed and disseminated to the DAS-MLS, and shared with the Assistant Program Director of the MLS program. May have teaching responsibilities in laboratory courses aligned with expertise.


MS degree from an NAACLS-accredited institution;

Minimum of two years’ experience in MLS practice setting; Classroom and clinical teaching experience in MLS program within last five years; Proficient with technology; Able to meet challenges of adult learners with diverse backgrounds; Self-directed and innovative; Excellent oral and written communication skills.
