Friendship Village Tempe is seeking a skilled Garden Coordinator for work in our Community Garden. This is a part-time position.

Starting Pay:$13.50 to 14.85/hour, based on experience.

Schedule: Tues-Sat 7am-11am


  • This position receives supervision from the Ground Manager, and is responsible for the general coordination of planting, harvesting, and maintenance for the Friendship Evergreen Community Garden area and garden plots.
  • This position is responsible for using required tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner under limited and/or minimum supervision.
  • Employee must possess knowledge and an understanding in order to maintain garden plants, plots, shrubs, and trees; possess knowledge of irrigation installations and be able to trouble-shoot existing irrigation problems, including valves and timer clocks.

Education & Experience

  • At least one year of gardening experience, and/or related experience and/or knowledge about farming and community gardening.
  • Current, valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Knowledge of grounds/lawn maintenance.
  • Possess skills to maintain landscape and garden equipment, turf, and planting materials.
  • Ability to operate mowers, chainsaws, blowers, trimmers and power sprayer.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Job demands may require working weekends, holidays, and/or any shift. Employee may be required to work overtime as directed by the department work load and staffing.
  • Must be able to walk long distances and at times may be required to bend, stoop or crouch, and climb ladders.
  • Must be capable of working in the extreme heat during the summer months.
  • May be exposed to the elements of weather (heat, cold, rain, dust, noise, fumes), unsanitary conditions and a variety of toxic chemicals.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time, climb, bend and do extensive walking.
  • Flow of work and type of duties require flexibility and normal mental and visual demand much of the time.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent contact with residents and employees. Responsible for own work.
  • Maintains direct contact with gardeners/residents. Must be courteous, friendly and helpful.
  • Reasonable care is required to prevent injury and accidents for others.
  • Flow of work and type of duties require flexibility and normal mental and visual demand much of the time.
