Overall Job Objective

General Summary

The City of Maricopa is hiring a Member Services Coordinator for its Copper Sky Multi-Generational Facility.  This position will supervise the guest experience at Copper Sky including it's front desk, child watch, fitness center, gymnasium, activity room, and the programming therein. Coordinator's area of supervision is the driving force behind the growth and retention of membership. Copper Sky Multi-Generational Facility is a 50,000 square foot community center that serves our community and provides access to recreation, education, therapeutic, and fitness opportunities.  The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a hospitality setting, be customer focused, solution oriented and organized.  The position will supervise full and part time staff as they serve the community and the ability to manage schedules, provide training, performance management is also highly sought after in this position. 

This position designs and implements recreational programming offered by the City to include controlling the inventory, marketing, promoting, procurement, and budgeting for programs and projects associated with recreational programming.  Supervises, evaluates, hires and trains staff to meet the recreational programming requirements.  Areas of specialty include: Aquatics, Fitness, Youth, Enrichment, and Sports programming, Membership, Customer Service and Facility Operations.
 
Incumbents in this class may be rotated or transferred to other facilities and/or assignments based on department or seasonal needs.  This class performs related duties as required. 

Recreation Coordinators may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Supervision is received from a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in the management of the day-to-day operations, financial objectives and marketing of recreation programs and collection of program fees.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of the support staff including training, schedules trainings before each season.  Performs evaluations after each season and sport.
  • Performs research, analyzes findings and develops innovative recreation programs; monitors and evaluates program outcomes for sustainability.
  • Communicates with staff and other program and operation areas regarding program.
  • Assists in planning the department budget, program and facility cost estimates and provides budgetary oversight.
  • Administers, justifies and monitors budgets for related work areas. Determines
    current and future needs for equipment and programs.
  • Evaluates fees and programs for adult and youth programs for all skills and abilities on a yearly basis.
  • Recruits contracted service providers who are responsible for a variety of recreation programs and vendor services.
  • Monitors the purchase, use and care of facilities and program equipment.
  • Develops and implements systems to improve services and processes.
  • Assists in performing onsite program inspections as well as onsite evaluation to ensure compliance with City of Maricopa program and safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments, outside agencies and organizations and performs duties that originate in the Community Services Department.
  • Develops yearly program calendar for area of responsibility.
  • Interprets and enforces department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments, outside agencies and organizations and performs duties that originate in the Community Services Department.
  • Acts as liaison to community groups, commissions and agencies.
  • Creates and makes presentations to City Committees, City Council, community groups, and other agencies
  • Performs related work as required

Minimum and Preferred Entrance Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Hospitality, Recreation, Sports Management,  or a related field
  • At least three (3) years of related work experience in the recreation field, with one (1) year supervisory experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Licenses or Certifications
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 60 days:
    • A valid Arizona driver's license
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
    • First Aid certification
