City Attorney's Office, Criminal Division
The Criminal Division handles the prosecution of all ordinance violations, misdemeanors, and petty offenses filed in the Aurora Municipal Courts. The mission of our Criminal Division is to enhance public safety and to achieve justice through the effective prosecution of municipal offenses.This position will primarily communicate and coordinate with the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) to facilitate the transfer of information necessary for the assessment of juvenile offenders within the Aurora Municipal Courts.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
- PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Types a variety of legal documents including correspondence, memoranda, legal pleadings, briefs, forms, and reports
- Performs data entry on a Linux Environment/Computer System
- Gather data and create statistical reports
- Initiates, develops, maintains, and closes legal case filings
- Processes paperwork from incarcerated defendants, warrants, State Motor Vehicle, process servers and court personnel
- Files legal documents and correspondence
- Answers phone inquiries from defense attorneys, the general public, and other agencies and officials
- Prepares and processes dockets, setting slips, personal service, and subpoenas
- Maintains legal library
- Downloads Body Cams and puts them on a Disk for Discovery
- Performs additional duties as assigned
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED
- At least 3 years progressively responsible secretarial experience. Experience in a legal office required.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

- Legal forms
- Personal computers including related word processing software applications
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
- Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Prioritize work
- Skill in typing at a minimum rate of 50 net words per minute
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel
- Skill in the use of personal computers including related word processing software
Licenses and/or Certificates:
- WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipment
- Vision sufficient to read computer screens, reports, and related department documents
- Dexterity to operate computer keyboards and other related office equipment
- Endurance sufficient to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
- Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment
- Frequently uses standard office equipment including typewriters, computers, calculators and copy/fax machines
- Frequently answers telephone
